SUSTAINABILITY OF SIERRA GORDA SCM

Sustainability is rooted in the daily work of our operation, covering all areas of the Company, and present in the spirit of all workers. In addition to seeking the development of mining activity in harmonious surroundings and friendly to the environment and neighboring communities, we are committed to comply with all regulatory requirements, and to implement high standards to obtain results of excellence.

Management is centralized in the Legal Department, Sustainability and Corporate Affairs, which covers various aspects related to sustainability, such as legal issues, communications and associated projects. This allows us to offer a comprehensive vision for the benefit of the various stakeholders, both internal and external to the Company.

In this way, the Legal Department, Sustainability and Corporate Affairs is responsible for managing the following matters:

  • Ensure the maintenance of the Social License to operate the Company.
  • Properly manage Sierra Gorda SCM projects within the framework of the Environmental Impact Assessment System (SEIA).
  • Ensure full compliance with the commitments arising from projects approved in the SEIA.
  • Assurance of compliance with commitments, current legislation and conditions of permits.
  • Reports to the Authority (Superintendency of the Environment, General Water Authority, SERNAGEOMIN, among others) and compliance management (load of verifiers) on platforms.
  • Relationship with the relevant environmental and sectoral authority, both national and regional.
  • Special studies related to Sustainability, such as Energy Efficiency, Innovation and Good Practices, among others.
  • Support and legal advice to all areas of the Company, regulatory monitoring, and assessment of legal risks.
  • Ensure governance through ethical behavior, and compliance with Chilean legal regulations and internal Company policies.
  • Community relationship in the areas of direct interest of the Company.
  • Management and development of the external communications of the Company in relation to information requested by external stakeholders. Management of public affairs.
  • Preparation of the Sustainability Report.
  • Strategy of Community Relationship.
  • Strategy of Sustainability.
  • Strategic and Sectoral Permits.

Specific studies requested by the authority in relation to environmental elements or control/mitigation measures.
